Adam Janota Bzowski has composed the score for ‘Truelove’, a new six-part drama starring Lindsay Duncan, Clarke Peters, Peter Egan and Sue Johnston, which begins airing on Channel 4 the 3rd January. The series is produced by Clerkenwell Films, the team behind the BAFTA award-winning series The End Of The F***ing World.
‘Phil (Duncan) had a long and distinguished career in the police, but after 13 years of retirement she’s very, very bored. Ken (Peters), a solitary SAS veteran, feels similarly at sea. When they meet for the first time in years at a friend’s funeral, at the drunken wake they and their friends take it in turns to imagine what a dignified death looks like, dreaming of quality of years over quantity, but what starts as a joke soon morphs into reality when their beloved friend Tom asks them to make the ultimate sacrifice.
This gang of old friends make a drunken pact: rather than let each other suffer a slow and dreadful decline, they will step in and engineer a dignified death. In short, they will help each other die when the time is right. Because that, they all agree, is a sign of Truelove. But what starts out as a fanciful idea soon morphs into a shocking reality…
Truelove wrestles with the knottiest of ethical questions out there – is it ever right to help end a life? It’s also a love story, as a long-extinguished romantic flame is rekindled between two people who missed out on each other when they were younger, offering them a second chance to experience the love of their lives before time runs out.’
