Emmy-nominee Ruth Barrett is one of the UK’s most sought-after film and television composers. Her music is unmistakably original and eclectic, spanning feature films and high-end TV drama.
Ruth’s most recent work includes Amazon’s The Girlfriend, directed by and starring Robin Wright, The Terminal List and The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, Netflix’s Old Guard 2 co-scored with Steffen Thum, Kathleen Jordan’s The Decameron for Netflix, as well as five series of NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime.
Her film credits include City of Tiny Lights and Legacy, both directed by Pete Travis (Dredd), Harry Brown (co-written with Martin Phipps), starring Michael Caine, Toast, directed by S.J Clarkson, and the gritty Paul Abbott penned feature Twenty8k.
Further television work comprises the Apple Tv+ series Big Beasts, Bloodlands directed by Pete Travis, The Sister for ITV,Sanditon – based on Jane Austen’s unfinished novel, Bodyguard – Jed Mercurio’s hit series for BBC, ITV/ Mammoth Screen’sVictoria and four series of The Durrells. Other projects include Apple TV’s Big Beasts, David Hare’s Collateral (BBC) starring Carey Mulligan, Critical (Sky), Love Nina (BBC) starring Helen Bonham Carter, Wuthering Heights (ITV/PBS) starring Tom Hardy, Wallander (BBC) and Whitechapel (ITV).
Ruth studied composition at The Royal Academy of Music and read music at Cambridge University. She started her career composing for theatre and commercials before setting up a music production company, Rubykon, with composer and engineer Ruskin Williamson. Between them, they have worked on numerous documentaries, ad campaigns and short films.
